CASA CENOTE is located in the middle of the mangroves and is more like a river than a typical cenote and connects the longest underwater cave system in the world, Sac Actun, to the ocean via a tunnel of about 50 meters. It is also called Cenote Manati and it is said that manatees previously lived in the cenote.
It is one of the few surface rivers in the Yucatan Peninsula and gives the diver the sensation of diving under the mangroves among both freshwater and saltwater fish. The dive begins in a large open area and then takes us further and further into the mangroves as we reach the entrance to the cavern area. The line of the cavern takes us close to the surface to where the open area ends between huge rocks covered in moss and green algae decorate the bottom and with a bit of luck even a moreletii also called "Mexican crocodile".
This site is well equipped with restrooms, a small souvenir shop, shaded areas with umbrellas. There is also a small restaurant where fresh snacks are prepared and a short trail that leads to the entrance of the dive site.
There are two guide lines installed and can be done separately, as two dives of about 45-50 minutes, or as one long dive. Both lines start in the open area of Chikin Ha and lead through a tunnel to the Rainbow Cenote among haloclines and magnificent rock formations. This cenote is part of the Ponderosa system and connects to other cenotes and is also very popular with certified divers or those training to become Full Cave divers.
