The PADI TecRec Diver has been completely revamped and replaces the DSAT TecRec originally launched in 2001. Technical diving requires specialized training and equipment to dive deeper than recreational limits and PADI, with the help of top industry professionals (including other agencies), has revised and updated this program to be in line with the latest techniques, theories and thinking about technical diving while still keeping safety as the primary goal. Now in the PADI eLearning system, the revised program adds a new level, Tec Basic and opens options for trimix diving when desired and available. Links to course credits help students avoid unnecessary repetition as they progress and move from one course to another in the program. This update also incorporates the latest diving science and thinking on topics such as gas density, gradient factors and deep stops, helium penalties, whether oxygen is narcotic, dive planning software and more. It allows divers to train sidemount or backmount and adds additional dry dive options.
The new Tec Basics Diver course focuses on equipment familiarity and basic technical diving techniques. This course is an elective level and is a good choice for those who want to get into tec with a shorter initial commitment.
Tec 40, 45 and 50 Diver courses: All now have a built-in trimix option. Where available and as desired, students can use trimix in their training as they progress and be qualified to use it within the limits of their certification.
The eLearning for both, students and instructors, can now access the revised curriculum via PADI eLearning. All products have been updated for a consistent learning experience. Aside from a few items, like the Tec Diver program Wetnotes and tank labels, everything is digital and connected to eLearning.
