Course Description:

The PADI Tec Intro to Cave Diver specialty course introduces risk and hazards that are not found in recreational open-water diving.

The aim of the course is to introduce to the basic principles of cave diving utilizing a single primary line, and relate them specifically to the hazards, equipment and techniques encountered during technical diving in an overhead environment, provided that cave divers adhere to the following limits:

1. Penetration is limited to the ‘Rule of Thirds’ in terms of gas management (1/6th if using double cylinders).

2. 30 meters maximum depth.

3. No decompression diving.

4. No restrictions; no areas too small for 2 cave divers to pass side-by-side.

5. Maintain a single continuous guideline (no jumps or gaps).

6. Proper cave diving equipment is used.

7. No removal of life support equipment shall be permitted within the overhead environment.

The objective of this course is the perfection of skills taught in the PADI Cavern Diver program, in addition to the adoption of additional techniques and procedures required for elementary cave dives. This introduction to cave diving is not intended to train divers for all facets of cave diving.

 Course goals are to:

- Perfect the skills taught in the cavern diving program, in addition to the adoption of additional techniques required for elementary cave dives.

- Teach the appropriate techniques – along with the right attitude – to dive safely in a cave environment similar to the one the student diver has received training in.

- Develop the minimum skills and knowledge for overhead environment diving within the limits of light penetration, and outline specific hazards associated with cave diving beyond the limits of light penetration.

- Train student divers in the proper planning, procedures, techniques and hazards of elementary cave diving to a maximum depth of 30 meters.
